Barry Cik on Taxes

Many of us realize that without a fair and equitable tax system everyone suffers. This is especially true for small business owners like myself. The Bush tax cuts have been controversial from Day One. We were told that they would stimulate the economy, but we have been facing serious problems since these cuts went into effect. My company, Naturepedic, produces natural and organic mattresses for children. I started the company after searching for crib mattresses for my first grandchild that did not contain toxic materials. I wasn’t happy with what I found, so I decided to do something about it. We started small, but today we have a large and growing retail network nationally and abroad. The future of my company is not dependent on a tax break for me. It is dependent on having a strong, stable economy with a growing middle class, not a shrinking middle class.

We cannot afford to keep the Bush tax cuts in place across the board. Letting these cuts expire for the top two percent of taxpayers will raise a trillion dollars over the next decade, money our government can reinvest in the future. It will also stop us from placing an unfair burden on the middle class, the very people we depend on for our livelihood.

It is time to take a stand, and when we do our businesses will be stronger than ever.
