On June 6, 2023, Republican state Reps. Jim Hoops (Defiance) and Sharon Ray (Wadsworth) introduced House Bill 197, joined by another colleague and representatives across the aisle.
H.B. 197 would establish a community solar pilot program with additional incentives for Appalachian sites and distressed site development.
Community solar is a model of solar deployment that is built by and for the community. These projects are generally smaller solar arrays located within a community where multiple customers can sign up to receive credits on their utility bill for their share of the electricity that is produced by those panels. Community has implications for both energy affordability and economic development in local communities.
OSBC has been a proponent of Community Solar in the past and look forward to highlighting the benefits of the new bill.
