U.S. Right to Know reports that the herbicide atrazine probably causes cancer in humans – and that a key study used to declare glyphosate “safe” has now been retracted due to Monsanto ghostwriting.
This news matters to every American. Glyphosate and atrazine are the two most widely used herbicides in the country, sprayed heavily on corn. Both are classified as probable human carcinogens. And cancer rates are rising fastest in corn-growing states, recent data show. In Nebraska – the state with the highest number of children with cancer – new research links multiple pesticide exposures to increased cancer risk.
Instead of strengthening protections, the Trump administration has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to shield Bayer from liability, arguing people should not be allowed to sue the company in state courts for failing to warn about cancer risk. This would take away a crucial legal tool for families harmed by pesticides.
This isn’t surprising. Both parties have often sided with the pesticide industry against public health.
U.S. Right to Know, is made up of a small group of journalists and public-health investigators who make visible the underlying connections between corporate wrongdoing, government failures and our health. They do this work because truth and transparency can save lives.
