It’s National Small Business Week, a moment to recognize what small businesses actually carry: jobs, communities, innovation, and increasingly, a cost burden that keeps growing. Energy is one of the heaviest. Electric bills are up 11% since last year, and utilities are pushing for billions more in rate hikes nationwide. For manufacturers, restaurants, contractors, retailers, and business owners of every kind, that’s not a line item. It comes out of payroll, out of margins, and out of the ability to grow. This week feels like the right moment to do something about it.

The ask is direct: remove barriers to new energy supply and bring reliable, affordable power online faster. Business owners and organizations from across industries and the political spectrum are signing on because rising energy costs hit everyone the same way. The deadline to be included in the initial release to House and Senate leadership is May 8. Anyone who owns or operates a business is welcome to sign — and so are business organizations. Please share with anyone in your network who feels these costs firsthand.
