Ranked Choice Voting: Virginia’s Example. Webinar Replay

For those of you who were not able to join the  Business for democracy webinar this past Wednesday, you missed a great one.

Chris Saxman, a former GOP legislator in Virginia and business leader, told us about how the state Republican Party, that had not won a statewide race since 2009, was in a state of disarray and facing third-party status.

Then the party turned to Ranked Choice Voting to select their statewide candidates in 2021.

The winners were not only all the GOP candidates who swept each statewide office because they had more moderate positions and lacked high negatives created by a traditional primary. Voters got officials more willing to listen to all interests including the business community.

Chris’s presentation and answers to questions clearly demonstrate that Ranked Choice Voting is a legitimate nonpartisan voting system not some weird, esoteric, confusing, liberal “wacko” idea to manipulate voting to benefit one party over the other.

This 45-minute video is well worth your time to hear about a voting system change that can help achieve the strong democracy that we all support.
